Virex Remote vs Devin
Both belong to the broader world of AI software engineering, but they answer different questions. One is about supervising an agent on your own hardware. The other is about handing work to a hosted one.
The short answer
If your agents already run on your machines and the problem is that you cannot see or steer them when you step away, Virex Remote is the fit. If you want to delegate a task to an agent that runs somewhere else entirely, that is what Devin is built for. They are complements more often than substitutes.
What each one is.
Stated at the level both companies state it publicly, without guessing at anyone internals.
Virex Remote
A control plane for Claude Code sessions running on your own machines. A lightweight daemon reports session activity over a live link, and you follow the run and answer its permission and plan decisions from any browser or device. Claude Code keeps running locally throughout.
Devin
A hosted AI software engineer. Work is delegated to an agent that operates in its own cloud environment, and you review what it produces. The execution environment is provided as part of the product.
Where they actually differ.
Only dimensions we can state accurately for both. Anything that changes often, including pricing and feature lists, belongs on the vendor own site.
| Dimension | Virex Remote | Devin |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Remote oversight and control for agents you already run. | A hosted autonomous coding agent with its own execution environment. |
| Where code executes | On your machines. Virex never executes customer code. | On vendor-provided infrastructure. |
| Model subscription | Your own. Virex does not resell or meter model usage. | Bundled into the product. |
| Primary integration | Claude Code. | Its own agent. |
| What you supervise | A live session: activity as it happens, permission requests, plan decisions, and interrupt. | Task-level delegation and the output produced. |
| Team model | One organization, per-product seats, one subscription across Virex products. | See vendor site for current team and pricing structure. |
| Pricing | Per seat, per month, per product. Rates on our pricing page from live plan data. | See vendor site. We do not publish other companies pricing. |
The distinction that matters.
Almost every practical difference follows from one decision: whose machine runs the agent.
Supervision versus delegation
Virex Remote assumes you want to watch a run and answer it mid-flight. A hosted agent assumes you want to describe an outcome and review the result. Which one suits you depends on how much of the work you want to stay close to.
Your environment, or a provided one
Local sessions have your repository, your tooling, your credentials, and your half-finished state. A hosted environment starts clean, which is an advantage for isolated tasks and a limitation for work entangled with your own machine.
Where the trust boundary sits
With Virex the boundary is the control plane: coordination and session state leave your machine, and code, credentials, and execution do not. With a hosted agent the code goes to the environment that runs it.
When Devin is the better choice.
We would rather you find us when we are the right answer than talk you into the wrong product.
- You want to hand off a well-specified task and review a result, rather than supervise a run in progress.
- You want an agent with its own provisioned environment, so nothing depends on a developer machine being awake.
- Your work is isolated enough that a clean cloud environment is an advantage rather than an obstacle.
- You are not running Claude Code locally, which is the integration Virex Remote is built around.
Virex Remote and Devin questions
Is Virex Remote an alternative to Devin?
Only partly, because they solve different problems. Devin runs an agent for you in its own environment. Virex Remote gives you oversight and control of Claude Code sessions running on your own machines. If you want the agent hosted, Devin is the category you want.
Where does the agent run in each product?
With Virex Remote the agent runs on your machine, under your own model subscription, and Virex never executes your code. Devin is a hosted environment, so execution happens on the vendor infrastructure.
Can I use both?
Yes, they do not conflict. Some teams use a hosted agent for isolated tasks and keep local sessions for work that touches their own environment, and Virex Remote covers the local half.
Which agent does Virex Remote work with?
Claude Code is the primary integration.
How is Virex Remote billed?
Per seat, per month, on one organization subscription with a line item per product. Current rates are on the pricing page from live plan data.
Keep the agent where it is. Get the oversight.
Subscribe to Virex Remote, assign a seat, and install the daemon on the machine your sessions run on.
